I tried to figure out the best way to explain all of this, but I give up. So I’ll just list the following just-barely-related facts:
- I have a friend named Sam
- Sam went to the same high school as Marc Cohn
- Marc Cohn was shot in the head
- I used to buy a lot of really, really bad techno compilations
- Both Sam and I have a strange affinity for cheezy techno covers of popular songs
We discussed our favorites (I’m partial to DJ Sammy’s “Heaven”, although INOJ’s “Time After Time” is good too) and I mentioned I had a version of “Walking In Memphis” that I’d share with him. It’s horrible. It’s a disgrace to the genre. It can’t hold a candle to Nicki French’s “Total Eclipse of the Heart”. But a promise is a promise:
Download: M R M - Walking In Memphis (Club Mix)
If anyone can find me Abigail’s version of Smell’s Like Teen Spirit I’ll pretty much be your slave forever. She apparently also did a version of “Losing My Religion”. The mind simply boggles.
Please leave a comment or send me an e-mail if you have any suggestions for similar tracks that are worth downloading!
