You may remember my post about how a couple of Sundays ago, I was too hung-over/too stupid to remember when my fantasy draft was. I figured I was going to miss it, since we were supposed to be in a flip-cup tournament that afternoon. Well, as fate would have it, our intrepid captain didn’t sign us up in time and we never actually had a slot in the darn thing. The fact that I was so hung-over I went to the bathroom in the Coffee Bean and tried to stick my finger down my throat to puke is logistical minutae.
Regardless, my fantasy football team was auto-picked for me. I did, however, pre-rank about 75 players, so I take some credit for the fact that my team wasn’t half bad. To recap, here’s what I ended up with (after a few waiver moves):
QB T. Green
WR A. Johnson
WR C. Chambers
RB P. Holmes
RB D. McAllister
TE D. Graham
W/T S. Smith
Kicker M. Stover
Bench:
M. Bennett (Min - RB)
J. Delhomme (Car - QB)
D. Givens (NE - WR)
BN J. Arrington (Ari - RB)
R. Droughns (Cle - RB)
I had the 5th pick in a 10 team league, so it stands to reason that I have a good team, while nobody really pops out at you. The first two picks were Holmes and McAllister, so no surprise there. Green went to me in the third round, although I would have much rather had Kevin Jones, who went 3 picks later (note that in my league, the swing position is WR/TE, as that more accurately reflects a football formation, not a WR/RB option, which just ends up being a third RB).
At any rate, I managed to broker a first in the however many years me and my friends have been doing our league: A three way deal. Besides its fantasy value, I just think the fact we did a three-way deal (there’s no machinery for this intrisic to Yahoo!) is pretty neat. Here’s what went down:
Team 1 gives: J. Walker to Jeremy
Team 2 gives: T. Jones to Team 1 and L. Johnson to Jeremy
Jeremy gives: C. Chambers to Team 1; J. Delhomme and D. Givens to Team 2
Team 1 gets: T. Jones and C. Chambers
Team 2 gets: J. Delhomme and D. Givens
Jeremy gets: J. Walker and L. Johnson
Now, this was before Walker had reported to camp, before Cedric Benson had signed, and when things were way dicey with Terell Owens. I mention Owens because Team 2 had McNabb as its starter and no legit backup, hence the need for Delhomme (who I think will have a big year with Steve Smith back).
Not content with that, I managed to swing another deal. This time trading Deuce McAllister and Michael Bennett for Kevin Jones and Lamont Jordan. I think Deuce should have a reasonable year, but I was burned by Bennett last year and by no means wanted him on my team. I’m not as high on Jordan as some people, but he does have a high ceiling. I just was not about to go through another year of having to carry fuckers like Mewelde Moore and Moe Williams (and Ciatrick Fason?!) on my roster, and not knowing who to play (although Bennett is really only my backup, but whatever). Also, having to handcuff Holmes and Johnson, I don’t really have the roster space for that sort of thing. Also, I’m really really high on Jones. So, after the two deals, I’ve got:
QB T. Green
WR A. Johnson
WR J. Walker
RB P. Holmes
RB Kevin Jones
TE B. Franks
W/T S. Smith
Kicker M. Stover
Bench:
L. Jordan (RB)
J. Arrington (RB)
R. Droughns (RB)
J. Harrington (QB)
L. Johnson (RB)
I got lucky, as someone released Franks when he held out. In fairness, that team also had Tony Gonzalez, but as I said, I got a little lucky there. I picked up Harrington of the waiver wire as my backup QB.
Hopefully, one of my backup RBs will go off in the first couple of weeks, and I’ll have a couple more chips to deal. All in all, I think I’m in pretty good shape.
Could be worse…Rudi Johnson could be my #1 back.

[...] Javon Walker, a key cog in that three team deal I bragged about previously is out for the season. But he was nice enough to put up a whole 27 yards before he called it a year. Go me. [...]
