Nostalgia is a form of advice…or perhaps I have that backwards

Does anyone remember “Days of the New - The Shelf in the Room”? How about “Spot - Moon June Spoon”? Or my personal favorite, “Smile - Staring at the Sun”. I mean, the really good stuff. It’s just not around anymore.

You know who I blame? Not Britney, or Justin, or the Backstreet Boys or any of those people. I don’t actually blame pop music at all. I blame the influx of shitty “The” bands from 2002. I think that era, which was supposed to supplant the “rap/nu-metal” era of Korn and Limp Bizkit finally killed good music as we know it. Not to imply that Korn and Limp Bizkit are good music — although I think Limp Bizkit is actually decent and most people hate them not for their music but because Fred Durst is a fucking toolshed, and I do believe I think I might even own Korn’s first record from ‘94 or whenever, before they decided to become a huge parody of themselves. But that’s all beside the point.

I mean, what would you rather have? Shit like “Ice age coming, Ice age coming!” or “I’ve got soul but I’m not a soldier” or “A seven nation army couldn’t hold us down” or this…:

Smile - Staring at the sun

Staaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrring attttttttttttttttt the sun.
Guess I shouldn't have stared so long.
Guess I shouldn't have stared so long.

Staaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrring attttttttttttttttt the sun.
Guess I shouldn't have stared so long.
Guess I shouldn't have stared so long.
'Cuz now I can't see at all!

I’m sure there’s more lyrics that just those, but I’ve never actually listened to much past that. It’s fucking horrible. If you don’t believe me, there’s a horribly compressed version of their video for that song here.

The point is: I guess they just don’t make ‘em like they used to.

PS: More like crash bang boom. More like water from the moon.

I so love Spot. I keep a copy of their cd at work, in the car and at home for moments when I need to just rock out.

What would you say, if I told I had a craving, for another girl in flight. The timing isn’t right.

I can’t stand the influx of wretchedness. I blame Clear Channel.

Are you telling me you’ve actually HEARD the song Moon June Spoon? You’re fucking kidding me!

I’ll totally be your slave if you give me an mp3 of it!

Spot is from Dallas, my place of life…or whatever. So they were all over the radio in high school. Give me a little bit and I’ll convert it over.
