This is why we don’t gamble on football. After a promising Saturday (with the Pats and ‘Skins winning) I went 0-2 on Sunday, after Carson Palmer’s ACL did it’s little string cheese impression. With the Bengals and Giants getting crushed, my push for profitability took a mild hit, as I went 2-2 for the weekend.
I was surprised to see that after a good final week (where I made the picks rather willy-nilly, proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that no one should ever, under any circumstances, bet on football) I was actually two games over .500 for the season. Financially, it breaks down like this: Wagering a standard “$110 to win $100″ bet — again, against the spread — I’d have spent $5720 on bets. Figuring in the 27 times I won, winning me $210 each time (the $110 I wagered, plus the $100 for winning) I’d have raked in $5670. A mere $50 less then I spent. And people wonder why Casinos make money.
So now that I’ve reached a goal of a .500 season, perhaps the goal of “profitability” isn’t that far behind. But I’m guessing we’re getting a tad ahead of ourselves.
Jeffy, unless he decides to pick some playoff games is going to end the season at a disappointing 16-20. Sam, Mussolini references and all, finished his one week at a paltry 1-3. (In case you were wondering, ESPN’s Bill Simmons has a record of 124-124-6, picking every single game this season. Not that anyone needed proof that I know more about football than he does, but he, in theory, gets paid to know these sorts of things. Or to, you know, make unfunny references to Karate Kid. One of the two).
At any rate, here’s where we stand so far. Tomorrow, look for a rant about the Rose Bowl, Vince Young, and everyone who ended up drinking the USC Kool-Aid.

Hmmm - will your rant include anything about the fact that Vince Young is going pro so Texas isn’t projected to be in the top 5 next year…but the Trojans still are???
And since you are so wise…maybe you can explain why last year you said Oklahoma was going to kick ass, yet go their asses kicked. It’s called luck Jeremy…l-u-c-k.
