We’re taking a little break from JeremyAbramson.com™ Presents: The Real World, Ultimate Hump List, just in time for the conference championships. I went 2-2 this past week, picking both NFC games (including a road dog and a home favorite that needed to cover by almost 10 points!), but losing out on both AFC games. Given that there are only 3 games left (two this week and the Superbowl) I best get on it if I want to get to profitability. (Side note: The one and only Bill Simmons is still 2 games under .500 for the year. So even if I don’t get to profitability, the fact that I’m 2 games over .500 should say something).

Jeremy: Tough game to call. On the one hand, you have to like the Broncos chances. They just dismantled the Pats last week, and seem to have things going on all cylinders. On the other, it’s hard not to look at the way the Steelers defense handled the Colts and think that they’re the team to beat here. (But don’t get me started on that game. That was such a historic botch-job on both sides of the football by both teams at the end there. How does Bettis fumble? And how does Nick Harper get tackled? And how does Indy, on second and two, with a timeout not make an effin’ FIRST DOWN?! They would have had like 30 seconds to get the ball 10 or so yards closer. Just an epic choke job by everyone involved). Having said that, I think I gotta go back to my roots here, and take the Broncos. Back before parity ruled the NFL — or better put, back when my hometown Niners ruled the NFL — I was a huge Broncos fan. We’re talkin’ the Three Amigos, Sammy Winder, Clarence Kay, Karl Mecklenberg…and later, Steve Atwater, Bobby Humphrey and Melvin Bratton. I sort of stopped rooting for them when they started winning (as opposed to losing, which they were very good at in the 80’s) Super Bowls, with Terrell Davis. But perhaps it’s time to start rooting for a specific team again. Maybe this is god telling me to return home. Am I too good for my home? Pick: Broncos |
Reason why I’m wrong: The Steelers can put pressure on the QB. Lots of it. And if they could force Peyton Manning into making bad decisions, what sort of havoc are they going to wreak on poor ol’ Jake Plummer? |
| Panthers at Seahawks (-3.5) | |

Jeremy: Wow. Imagine that. A home dog that Jeremy thinks can win outright. Well, I’ve hitched my NFC interests to the Panthers, and there’s no reason to back down now. Maybe it’s because trading Jake Delhomme in the preseason netted me Larry Johnson. Maybe it’s because I lucked into Steve Smith this year. I have no idea. I just feel like I owe the Panthers a debt of gratitude for helping me win BOTH of my fantasy leagues this year. And besides…I can’t believe the Seahawks could actually play in the Superbowl. The freakin’ SEAHAWKS? Pick: Panthers |
Reason why I’m wrong: All-world Defensive End Julius Peppers is banged up and might not play. The Panthers are thin at RB, having already lost Stephen Smith for the season and going without DeShawn Foster. |

You left out the most important point about the AFC game. Can the Steelers actually go into all 3 AFC Division Winners home field and win playoff games? I’d be interested to know if that has ever been done before.
