Bolth, boath or both?

July 31st, 2006 · 2 Comments

You ever notice how if you say a word long enough, it starts to sound funny? I think that’s seriously true with the word “both”. Some people pronounce it like “bolth”, but if you go out of your way to stress the “o” sound, it comes out boath (or, perhaps, “bowwth”) but that doesn’t sound right either.

I don’t know why, but that’s always bugged me.

In other news, at what point are those Budweiser “Wassssssssup?!” commercials going to become retro-chic? I admit, I thought they were funny when they came out, and I was thinking about how I should bring them back. Not in the hipster “retro Atari shirt” way, but more in the “listening to the Baha Men with no sense of irony” way.

Lastly, I remember being allowed to take an elective for English the second semester of 8th grade. I, of course, chose to take a class on “humor”, figuring it’d be easier than any of the other offerings. Among doing such things as sending a “Lazlo Letter” — which I sent to Kellogs, complaining that my box of Raisin Bran had only one-and-three-quarters scoops of raisins — and making fake book titles — “What the Earth is Lacking”, by Aaron Water — we learned about different forms of humor.

Now, I know what you’re thinking…”Jeremy? How can this be? Different forms of humor? I thought there was just two categories: 1). Dick-and-fart jokes and 2). Things that aren’t funny! What are these supposed ‘other’ categories?”

Well, I don’t really know. Truth is, I don’t remember anything from that portion of the semester except a small part of a video that “explained” the different forms of comedy (to an 8th grade audience). Logically, I can imagine the video covered other types of comedy, such as satire or whatever, but the only thing I remember was this one part, smack dab in the middle of it that said “Somtimes repetition can be funny. Sometimes repetition can be funny. Sometimes repetition can be funny. Sometimes repetition can be funny. Sometimes repetition can be funny”.

Well, as you’d expect, by the third time, the entire class was rolling in their desks. It was that day I learned that “comedy” is just another name for “appealing to the 98% of the human brain that is indistinguishable from a monkey’s”

The point?

This, my friends, is fucking hilarious.

That version is really fucking funny! And a whole lot shorter, so it only took me like, two days to watch instead of a few weeks.

[...] Now, I don’t really believe in discussing “personal” things over here at JeremyAbramson.com™. Some people use their blogs to complain about their significant others, or to tell the world what they’re up to, or just to vent about how they’re feeling that day. Call me old-fashioned, but I never felt that the Internet was the appropriate place for that sort of thing. And besides, would you really rather hear about how my roommate ate three of my tortilla chips, or stories about my 8th grade English class? [...]
