2006 NFL Picks, Week 2

September 15th, 2006 · 2 Comments

Perfection. It’s hard to top, isn’t it?

But we’re going to try, aren’t we? After a perfect 4-0 week against the spread, Brian and I are back with another round of picks. So kick the kids out of school, get a second on the house and call up your bookie. Or don’t…there’s nowhere to go but down from here.

As promised, Brian – who went a respectable 3-1 last week – has a few words to say:

Just let me introduce myself… Brian Takeshi Saito. So, I won an MTV Overdrive contest and chose to write for this website over having cocktails with Derrick; I adore the idea of making 4 picks a week for a website that literally TENS of people read.

Oh yes ladies I’m really being sincere… I know, it’s premature, but I did tell Jeremy that Lamont Jordan will be the biggest fantasy bust this year. What are the odds the Raiders go 0-16? What’s the record for most times a team has been shut out in a season? I love records of futility. And I despise the Raiders. I am so excited for this season.

I even got my own dance… I hate that the NFL is cracking down on celebrations. Michael Turner “The Burner”, got 15 for dragging his feet like a bull. They should just penalize touchdowns all together. Make it a field goal only game. Just ask that Grammatica brother, kickers can’t celebrate. Could anyone ever tell the difference between the two? It’s like the Olsen’s. There’s the skinny one and the one that played for the Cardinals.

Hey yo fat girl, come here are you ticklish… I am sick of people drafting fantasy wideouts that play with awful quarterbacks. Moss won’t catch 3 touchdowns all year. Lee Evans will only salvage his season if he makes a million yard touchdown catch, shattering the record for single game total points. Favre is too busy showing us his Ryan Leaf impression to consider Driver. The only one that stands a chance is Antonio Bryant. That dude is nasty and Alex Smith is going to surprise some people in the next few years… Yo Randy! Make me a smoothie!

Onto the picks…

Bills at Dolphins (-6.5)

Jeremy: Expectations, expectations, expectations. They can be a bitch to deal with, as I’m sure the Dolphins know. This was the year they were supposed to make “the leap”, establishing themselves as a bona-fide contender. Having gone 4-0 against the spread last week, I can obviously relate to the pressure of expectations.

And while it’s a good bet that I’m going to go 4-0 again this week, taking the Bills to cover twice in a row on the road is a bit of a stretch. The Dolphins win this one by 10.

Pick: Dolphins

Brian: I know, I know. No way JP Losman covers twice on the road… back-to-back. Well believe it baby! Daunte Culpepper is the same as we left him, a turnover machine. Can you bet the over under on combined picks Favre and Culpepper throw this year? They’re going to throw more picks in a season than Roger Maris hit homeruns.

Pick: Bills

Texans at Colts (-13.5)

Jeremy: Can the Colts beat the Texans by two touchdowns?

Did Jeremy Abramson go 4-0 against the spread last week? I think so. Give the points.

Pick: Colts

Brian: You know how you latch onto a bad team and always think/hope this is their year? That’s how I am with Houston. I keep waiting for Andre Johnson to go Ernest Givens and break out the Electric Slide. No, wait, that would require him to get in the end zone. Name a better celebration than the Electric Slide. Maybe the Icky Shuffle. No way the Superbowl Shuffle. Going with single incidents, I’d have to say it’s a toss-up between Chad Johnson going Tiger Woods, and Chad Johnson giving the football mouth-to-mouth-resuscitation. Wow, I really butchered resuscitation, thank you spell-check.

Pick: Texans

Panthers at Vikings (+2)

Jeremy: Home dogs were very good to us last week (did I mention I went 4-0?). And the Vikings look particularly frisky this year. Decent QB play, a star-studded defense, and an emerging running game. Or maybe I’m just saying that because I’m benching Lamont Jordan (shut up, Brian) so I can start Chester Taylor.

Pick: Vikings

Brian: So I bought the new Justin Timberlake CD on Tuesday. Now, I consider myself very secure with my heterosexuality. However, nothing makes you feel like more of a homo than walking the mall at 12:30 in the afternoon, clearly on my lunch break, to purchase a former member of N’Sync’s new CD… on the same day it was released. I love this idea of a young male “bringing sexy back”. Does this mean we have beer commercials with scantily clad men egaged in a water gun fight to look forward to? Awesome. And by awesome, I mean totally gay. I do appreciate the turn he is taking. The CD has a very “Prince” feel to it. And I love me some Prince.

Anyways, Panthers regain consciousness and blowout the Vikes.

PS. I used two apostrophes in one word (that is, if you consider N’Sync to be a word). I’m not sure if I did it correctly, or if there even is a correct way to do it. But it makes me feel good about myself.

Pick: Panthers

Steelers at Jaguars (+1)

Jeremy: Brian thinks the Steelers can’t beat the Jags.

Brian also thinks it’s acceptable to shove a cane up a dude’s butt, just so long as a). you’re drunk and b). he offers only the most modest resistance.

And while I agree with Brian on the cane/butt assessment, I must respectfully disagree with him on the whole Jags covering issue. And after all, who went 4-0 last week?

That’s right, me. Take the champs.

Pick: Steelers

Brian: As of today (Friday) Ben is back. Bad decision. Here’s his thought process: “I’ll come back early from my appendectomy, lead us to a victory on Monday Night and everyone will forget my head should be smashed like a piece of fruit at a Gallagher show. Too bad it won’t work out this way. Keeping us on topic, who is the worse “comedian”, Gallagher, Carrot Top or Dane Cook? Discuss.

Pick: Jags

Editors note: Thanks to Dan for pointing out the “Giants/Chargers” typo.

You’re taking the Steelers on the Giants/Chargers game? Wow, are you sure? Cuz I’d go with either the Giants or Chargers to win, but I didn’t go 4-0 last week..

Hey Brian - nice shoutout for Bryant and Smith. I was at the game on Sunday and I don’t remember being this excited for 49ers football in a while. It also feels really good to see the Raiders play so awful, I’m really pulling for 0-16. Keep up the good picks, 2-2 is not bad for those games.
